Overview

The historic town of Burnham-on-Crouch is situated on the banks of the River Crouch just off the East Coast, a little over an hour from London. The quiet, unspoilt riverside town is best known as a yachting and sailing centre, and host of an annual regatta dating back over 120 years –the internationally famous Burnham Week. In the centre of the town Burnham’s most recognizable landmark is its octagonal clock tower, dating back to the 1870s, while listed timber-clad cottages and Georgian town houses blend into an attractive quayside of boat yards and sailing clubs.

Away from the river, Burnham boasts many other attractions including the excellent Mangapps Railway Museum, miles of open countryside trails, Country Parks and Nature Reserves. Sports enthusiasts are also well catered for with a sports centre and football club within the town. Burnham is well served with shopping from local and nationwide chains as well a number of traditional inns and restaurants. The three schools in the town cover all age ranges.

Burnham is just a commute away from London’s Liverpool Street station, taking just over an hour with services throughout the day. Chelmsford and Southend are within easy reach, with Stansted Airport some 40 miles distant.
