Attleborough is a historic market town in the heart of the Norfolk countryside, between Thetford and Norwich, just off the A11.
The town sign bears witness to trade from yesteryear, particularly the production of cider. Gaymers cider company moved to the town in 1896 and soon became established as the largest local employer. Sourcing apples from the small orchards in the area, and Norfolk generally, they remained in the town until finally closing their doors in the 1990’s. Norfolk Black Turkeys are also depicted on the signs, showing the importance of poultry to the towns income and County in general.
Attleborough today offers good local amenities with independent stores and supermarkets for daily shopping, while the weekly market has been a highlight in the town for hundreds of years. Additionally there is a post office, doctors, pharmacy and an attractive selection of pubs and restaurants locally. Community sports facilities include a leisure centre, fitness gym and for the more adventurous, a motocross track a few miles away in Besthorpe. Further afield the vast surroundings of Thetford Forest offers everything from multiple walking and cycling routes to high wire and Segways.
The ancient City of Norwich is closeby and by car via the A11 takes around 30 minutes to the centre offering a large range of culture, entertainment and shopping you would expect from a vibrant city.
The town is ideally situated for regular commuting with easy access into Norwich by train, taking around 20 minutes from Attleborough station. Trains to Cambridge are also readily available taking about an hour. Attleborough has a good range of primary and secondary schools situated within the town itself, while Wymondham College is located just a few miles away.
