Matthew Homes donation gives homelessness charity a new year boost

Local homelessness charity Emmaus Gloucestershire has kicked off the year with a furniture donation worth £7000 from Housebuilder Matthew Homes.

The Hertfordshire-based business builds homes throughout the south of England and donated the entire contents of a four-bedroom show house in Gloucester to help the local charity raise funds to support its work.

The donated furniture, household items and soft furnishings, which would have otherwise gone to waste, will be sold in the charity’s five Emmaus shops across Gloucestershire. All the profits will go towards providing a home, support and training to people who have been homeless.

Chief Executive at Emmaus Gloucestershire, Joe Feeley, said:

“We are once again facing an income shortfall with the temporary closure of our shops due to the national lockdown, but this generous donation has helped immensely to lift the spirits of our retail team. Social distancing measures and restrictions during the pandemic has made it difficult to collect furniture from people’s properties, so to receive so many high-quality items from Matthew Homes has come at the perfect time. I would like to thank the team at Matthew Homes for thinking of Emmaus Gloucestershire, it means the world to us when local businesses recognise the work we do and want to help us.”

Emmaus Gloucestershire offers people who have been homeless or socially excluded the opportunity to rebuild their lives by providing a home within a communal building, work experience to gain future employment, daily support and funding training. The charity funds its work by selling second-hand items in its Cheltenham, Gloucester, Nailsworth and Stroud shops.

Daniel Gallagher Deputy Chair/Sales Director at Matthew Homes, said: “we are pleased to help out Emmaus Gloucestershire.  Their work to house and to provide work experience is so exceptional and such value that we felt it was appropriate to support them with this donation.  Times are very difficult for so many individuals and organisations at this time and it is with great pleasure that we have been given this opportunity to contribute to their great work”

Matthew Homes has been established for more than forty years and with experience in building going back to the 1950s, they offer a diverse range of homes for a variety of different requirements.  This can be seen at Earls Park off Bristol Road Gloucester www.matthew-homes.com
